Coronavirus vaccine: Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner updates vaccine against COVID-19 at Minute Maid Park

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – According to health officials, Minute Maid Park, Houston’s latest vaccination site COVID-19, was administered Saturday morning.

Mayor Sylvester Turner visited the site as the vaccinations were administered by the Houston Department of Health.

The Houston Department of Health tweeted a reminder that the appointments for Monday were full.

Since the mega-website does not drive through, the large police presence that leads people to where to park and where to go is one thing that helps the operations proceed.

“It’s a big operation. “There can be a problem every now and then, but I ensure that vaccinations do not sit on the shelves,” said Mayor Turner.

Despite efforts to get people vaccinated, he said the COVID-19 positivity rate is still much higher than anyone would have liked.

“I still get disturbing pictures of people visiting clubs that are classified as restaurants,” he said. “And I can tell you these are not restaurants.”

Turner said he would appeal to TABC to curb the reclassifications. He said he was in touch with Houston Fire Chief Sam Pena. He and his department are expected to review some of the restaurants on Saturday night.

“If you look at these photos, there’s no food on the table,” Turner said. “It’s crazy. I call on the state to review their policy. “

He said loopholes like these make it very difficult for the city to get rid of the virus.

“TABC continues to conduct more than 1,000 inspections each week, which include responding to reports of possible violations,” TABC later said in a statement. “We are aware of the videos that appeared over the weekend and have already begun our own investigation.”

The center at Minute Maid Park is one of three mega-sites operating in the Houston area.

Memorial Herman will be handing out 13,000 vaccinations at NRG from Thursday to Sunday, which works out to about 3,200 per day. The extra 2,000 slots the hospital added for NRG’s transit clinic over the weekend are now full.

According to a release from the hospital, the spots were added to the schedule for January 16 and January 17. After about an hour, the hospital announced that they had all been taken.

The Houston Methodist Hospital will give 4,000 shots. During this event, Memorial Hermann plans to vaccinate people 65 years of age or older, based on the state’s Phase 1B information dissemination.

Many of the surrounding provincial health departments, including Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, Brazoria and Galveston counties, have not received extra doses in the past week.

Many of the leaders have expressed their frustration and want to be able to do for their residents what Houston is doing today.

The state health department said it expects to receive at least 100,000 more doses this week than last year, which it says will allow it to reach more provinces.
