Coronavirus: Nurse allegedly caught stealing vaccinations in Michigan

A nurse was arrested Monday after police said she was caught stealing COVID-19 vaccines from a conference center in Michigan.

According to an employee at Detroit’s TCF center, the woman saw the woman put two syringes of the Moderna vaccine into the bag, according to city officials. The suspect was stopped before she came out of the facility, reports say.

“I’m really shocked. The access to vaccines that came in Michigan and in southeastern Michigan is not necessary,” Hakim Berry, the city’s chief operating officer, told Detroit’s FOX 2. “People can get a vaccine. We are constantly opening up our levels to be eligible.”

Berry said the nurse, according to the station, is probably affiliated with a staffing agency that helps nurses at TCF. She could face charges and lose her nursing license.

He added that the vaccines are carefully protected.

“Our vaccines are stored in a safe place,” Berry told Detroit on WDIV-TV. “Even when we deliver, they are at a security guard. We take into account every spray we give.”

TCF Center is a designated vaccine distribution site for the city of Detroit. At least 109,000 people have been vaccinated there since Jan. 13, Berry said.
