Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 1,346 new cases, 41 deaths

The Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday reported 1,346 new confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus and another 41 deaths.

The numbers represent the second day of more than 40 new death announcements, though the state said Tuesday that the lengthy process of confirming some deaths has delayed some announcements. More than 30 of the deaths announced Tuesday occurred in 2020.

The state did not provide details on the deaths announced Wednesday, but said more information would be released later in the day.

Oregon’s death toll to Tuesday pushed COVID 19 deaths to 513 in December, surpassing the March, April, May, June, July and August deaths combined.

Meanwhile, it A further 9,071 doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered on Tuesday, the third-highest daily total since vaccination began in the state. As of Wednesday, nearly 130,000 first and second doses have been given, about 40 percent of the 321,225 doses delivered to Oregon.

New deaths: The state did not provide information on the new deaths, but said it would be done later Wednesday.

The incidence of infections: On Wednesday, the state reported 1,168 new positive tests out of 17,886 tests performed, which equates to a 6.5% positivity rate.

Who became infected: New confirmed or suspected infections grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (72); 10-19 (160); 20-29 (254); 30-39 (233); 40-49 (197); 50-59 (158); 60-69 (129); 70-79 (78); 80 and older (46).

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 434 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were currently in the hospital, 31 more than Tuesday. Of these, 103 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, ten more than on Tuesday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 129,782 doses out of 321,225 receipts, just over 40% of its supply.

Since it started: Oregon reported 129,109 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,708 deaths, one of the lowest totals in the country. To date, the state has reported 2,874,572 laboratory reports of tests.
