The Oregon Health Authority on Saturday reported three COVID-19 deaths and 888 new cases, continuing a continuing trend of growing case numbers that is expected to continue through May.
The state recorded 3,722 confirmed or suspected infections for the week ending Sunday, April 11, 26% higher than the previous week. New cases surpass the increase in week-to-week testing, which stood at 11%. Postal codes outside the Portland area found the most cases last week, while several rural areas had the highest distribution.
On Monday, the state will open vaccinations for Oregonians 16 years and older, a group that would originally wait longer on their lap. It appears that Oregon is not expected to receive an increase in vaccine supply, and it is likely that only those who act quickly and are well connected will find appointments.
