Oregon reported 796 new cases of coronavirus and 22 deaths on Tuesday when Gov. Kate Brown said some businesses in the hardest-hit counties could now allow a very limited number of customers after making closures previously.
Under the minor changes, indoor buildings such as museums, gyms and cinemas with more than 500 square feet of space will be allowed to have up to six people at a time, versus zero. The new restrictions do not apply to restaurants.
While the new case numbers on Tuesday exceeded Monday’s numbers by hundreds of cases, it did not break the downward trend that Oregon has seen since Jan. 15. The current weekly average of new cases per day is 698 compared to 1,309 daily cases the week of January 14th. .

Deaths: Government officials have not yet released details on the 22 recently reported deaths due to COVID-19. This post will be updated after the details become available.
The incidence of infections: On Tuesday, the state reported 1,165 new positive tests out of 23,706 tests performed, which equates to a 4.9% positivity rate.
Who became infected: New confirmed or suspected infections grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (35); 10-19 (115); 20-29 (137); 30-39 (122); 40-49 (104); 50-59 (93); 60-69 (80); 70-79 (44); 80 and older (37).
Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 308 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were in the hospital Tuesday, 12 less than Monday. Of these, 70 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, five less than on Monday.
Vaccines: As of Monday, 40,775 Oregonians have been fully vaccinated, and another 222,385 have been partially vaccinated.
Since it started: Oregon reported 139,355 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,904 deaths, one of the lowest totals in the country. To date, the state has reported 3,105,500 laboratory reports of tests.
