The Oregon health authority on Sunday announced 1421 new positive or suspected COVID-19 cases, along with eight more deaths, bringing the death toll to the state to 1,500 since the pandemic began.
A total of 117,745 people have now tested positive in Oregon.
Health officials said 3,400 doses of vaccine were taken yesterday, including 1,700 new shots given and 1,700 documented from earlier. To date, 48,725 Oregonians have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine out of 190,500 doses distributed, the health authority said.
Oregon’s vaccine deployment follows 40 other states, federal data from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention show.

Oregon’s 1,493st COVID-19 death is an 82-year-old man in Coos County who tested positive on Dec. 21 and died in his home on Dec. 31. He had underlying conditions.
Oregon’s 1,494th COVID-19 death is a 76-year-old man in Marion County who tested positive on Nov. 28 and died Jan. 1 at Salem Hospital. He had underlying conditions.
Oregon’s 1495th COVID-19 death is an 88-year-old woman in Marion County who tested positive on Dec. 1 and died Jan. 1 in Salem Hospital.
Oregon’s 1496th COVID-19 death is a 77-year-old woman in Polk County who tested positive on Nov. 13 and died in her home on Dec. 12.
Oregon’s 1,497th COVID 19 death is an 81-year-old man in Polk County who tested positive on Nov. 30 and died in his home on Dec. 15.
Oregon’s 1,498th COVID-19 death is a 79-year-old woman in Polk County who tested positive on Dec. 15 and died Dec. 28 at West Valley Hospital.
Oregon’s 1,499th COVID-19 death is a 77-year-old woman in Union County who tested positive on Dec. 10 and died Jan. 1 in Grand Ronde Hospital.
Oregon’s 1,500th COVID-19 death is an 88-year-old woman in Washington County who tested positive on Dec. 18 and died on Jan. 1; her place of death is confirmed.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospital patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 483, 15 more than yesterday. There are 109 COVID-19 patients in beds for intensive care units, no change from yesterday.
