Coronavirus hospitalizations reached their lowest level in almost three months

More than 74,000 people remain in hospital as a result of COVID-19 as of Thursday, the lowest level in nearly three months, according to data from the COVID tracking project.

The group recorded about 74,225 hospitalizations as of Thursday, making it the third consecutive day that the number remained below 80,000.

The number of patients in intensive care units – 15,190 – is the lowest number the group has recorded since 17 November 2020.

The new data shows a promising development from January the biggest number of COVID-19 deaths and the highest average number of coronavirus hospitalizations in any month since the pandemic first hit the US

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. on Thursday had more than 103,000 new coronavirus infections, bringing the country to about 27.4 million.

The U.S. also reported 3,724 deaths related to coronavirus on Thursday, with the total number of deaths now exceeding 475,000.

Despite the increasing numbers, officials warned the public and governors not to soften as there was an increase in the cases of new and more contagious coronavirus variants across the country.

The decline in hospitalizations came the same day that President Biden announced it the US received another 200 million doses coronavirus vaccine, which completed the commitment promised last month.

Biden said in comments to the National Institutes of Health that the purchases would increase supply by 50 percent to 600 million doses.

The president added that the new purchases mean there will be enough doses of Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech to vaccinate every American by the end of July.

As of Thursday, about 34.7 million people had already received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, with nearly 11.2 million vaccinated with the required two doses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
