Coronavirus deaths in Iowa increase monthly high

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa on Tuesday reported seven additional coronavirus-related deaths, which increased the state to 3,999.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University report that the death rate per capita in Iowa is one time higher than the 14th highest in the country with 126.5 deaths per 100,000 people.

Recently updated state data shows that 3,952 people died in Iowa in November, the highest death toll for one month in the state.

The available state data shows that Iowa’s death total last year was the highest one-time total, at least since 1915. The deaths to November amounted to 31,628. Even without deaths added in December, the deaths from 2019 already exceeded 30,669.
