The news comes after the coal state was found to be one of five states that drive nearly half of the new coronavirus infections nationwide. New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey together reported 44% of new COVID-19 infections, or nearly 197,500 new cases, in the most recent seven-day period, according to state health agency data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. . . The total U.S. infections numbered more than 452,000 during the same week.

The situation puts pressure on the federal government to consider changing the way it distributes vaccines by sending more doses to hotspots, although the White House said on Friday that states would still receive the grant of COVID-19 vaccines on land of populations, despite recent increases in cases in several regions.

Jeff Zients, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, said it was not the time to change.
