Cook is excited about progress with Apple Silicon transition

Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company needs to do much more, but is excited about how the first Apple Silicon M1 Macs were received.

During the legal mandate for quarterly returns, Cook responded to questions from analysts about M1 Macs, the first of Apple’s own-powered silicon-designed computers. He has repeatedly stressed that he sees it as early days in the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, and said Apple is excited about the progress so far.

“We are halfway through the transition, and we have a lot more to do,” he said. “We are in the early days of a two-year transition, but we are excited about what we have seen so far.”

“If you look at the switch [from PC to Mac], “he continued,” if you look at the new Mac and new iPad, the numbers worldwide are about half the purchases available from new people. The installation base is therefore still expanding with new customers. ‘

‘This applies to both iPad and Mac [but] if you look at the Mac, M1, I think it gives us a new growth path that we have not yet had, “he continued. If Q1 is a good proxy, there’s a lot of excitement about M1-based Macs. ”

Apple introduced its first M1-powered Macs late last year with the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Customer feedback has been largely positive, with many citing the speed and efficiency of the new PCs compared to previous Macs and Windows boxes.

There are rumors that the company will release some redesigned, luxury MacBook Pro models with M1 chips in the third quarter, while iMac and Mac Pro could benefit from Apple Silicon later this year.
