Contra Costa opens vaccine eligible for ages 50 and older :: Press Releases :: Contra Costa Health Services

Thanks to an increase in the supply of COVID-19 vaccines, Contra Costa Province is today expanding the eligibility for all those who are 50 and older and live or work in the country, regardless of whether they have an underlying health condition.

The move comes as the province began receiving additional vaccine from the federal government for its federally qualified health centers. This federal grant is a supplement to the vaccine the country receives from the state each week.

One week ago, Contra Costa extended the fitness to 16-64 years and older with qualifying underlying health conditions. Today’s announcement removes any health-related thinness for those between the ages of 50-64.

“We look forward to the coming months when we can be eligible for the vaccine, when everyone and everyone is eligible,” said Diane Burgis, chair of the Board of Supervisors. “More and more doses of vaccine are coming into the country every week and we expect the trend to continue.”

To date, more than 336,000 provincial residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, including 96% of those aged 75 and over. The province will further increase the qualification for others as the vaccine supply increases.

“COVID does not affect everyone the same,” said Dr Chris Farnitano, the province’s health officer. “Elderly people are more likely to contract serious diseases. Almost all of the COVID deaths in Contra Costa were among people over the age of 50. We are making good progress in vaccinating those in the groups who are already eligible and will continue to do so. of the most vulnerable groups in our community. ‘

More than 235,000 provincial residents are between the ages of 50-64 years.

“We are fortunate to currently have three extremely effective vaccines,” said Dr. Farnitano said. “All the health officials in the Bay Area strongly recommend taking the vaccine you can to protect you, your loved ones and our community.”

Eligible residents can request a vaccination appointment through the province by filling out an online form or by calling 833-829-2626.
