Concept imagines the redesigned iPad mini with larger 8.4 “Liquid Retina screen

Rumors have been circulating for months about a redesigned iPad mini with thinner edges and a design inspired by the iPad Pro. Concept artist Michael Ma, also known as Apple iDesigner, has created beautiful versions of what this product might look like.

The concept depicts an iPad mini that looks like a smaller iPad Air, available in the same five colors and with slightly thicker edges than the iPad Pro. With flat edges, this iPad mini can accommodate a magnetic Apple Pencil, though Mom suggests it on the left side of the iPad rather than on the right side.

The iPad mini is not that much bigger than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, so it makes a lot of sense to increase the screen size. It seems like Mom’s concept depicts what it would look like if they maintained a similar footprint as the current mini, but with a screen that spreads across the entire surface, not just from side to side.

Like iPad Air, this conceptual iPad mini built-in Touch ID into the on / off button rather than Face ID. The display is 8.4 ″ on the diagonal.

Rumor has it that the next iPad mini will have a larger 8.4 ″ Retina screen compared to the current 7.9 ″ screen size. However, the next generation iPad mini is not expected to have an edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display. Instead, according to Apple, it is said that they diluted the rings in the same way as when they converted the 9.7 ″ iPad Pro to 10.5 converted. This means that it will maintain the home button for the time being. Rumors have recently surfaced that Apple plans to launch an iPad mini in full screen, but the timing is unclear.

Fans of the iPad mini have been looking for a model with a design inspired by the 2018 iPad Pros, but Apple has been dragging its feet with the iPad mini over the past few years. The most recent hardware update was in March 2019 when it first received Apple Pencil support.

The next generation iPad mini is expected to be launched at some point in the spring. It’s possible we’ll see it before the end of this month, but it’s simply based on rumors in the industry. The community is still in conflict with whether the next model will have a full screen design or that it is something we will see along the way. I personally hope to see something very similar to this concept.
