Competitive Tetris player Jonas Neubauer died suddenly at the age of 39.
Neubauer was a seven-time world champion of Tetris and has a Pull channel with his partner, Heather Ito. He died on 4 January 2021 after an unspecified ‘sudden medical emergency’.
“With a heavy heart we are delivering the terrible news that Jonas has died in a sudden medical emergency,” a short message on his Twitter account said (thank you, Eurogamer). “He was the absolute best. We are crushed, overwhelmed with sadness, and we already miss him very much. Information to follow when available.”

His unexpected death led those who knew him to openly reveal their memories of him.

“Jonas was a master of Tetris, a denim enthusiast, an ambassador in Albacete, Spain, and an expert food taster in Ravenclaw’s home,” explains a writer on GoFundMe memorial fund established for Neubauer’s family. “His enthusiasm for everything was contagious and inspiring, and he always found ways to make any situation incredibly enjoyable.”
