DETROIT – Welcome to Saturday, Motown.
Snow is coming back for the first of this weekend. A little sun is coming back, Sunday. It will again be much colder than average all weekend again. More accumulating snow is in our forecast early next week with a major storm on the East Coast.
On Saturday morning it will be very cold with snow arriving a few hours before dawn. Light and light snow starts around 4am as the low and mid teens start low temperatures in the morning. Chewing gum will be in the one digit and will be almost zero.

Snow will spread if it continues at breakfast and by lunch. It will sometimes be light to moderate. Temperatures remain well below freezing; in the upper teens. Gentle congestion, up to one centimeter or more, occurs across the region. Snowflakes will get stuck on sidewalks and streets.

At the last minute, Valentine’s Day shoppers will have to start early to find tickets and gifts early to avoid more congestion, but don’t be in a hurry. Especially ramp and exit walls will be difficult, but not impossible to navigate. Also be careful because we do not want to slip and fall.
Saturday afternoon it will be sometimes cold and snowy. If there is snow falling and blowing, it will be difficult to see. So pay attention to your speed and spacing while driving. Also stay alert for pedestrians and salt trucks. Another centimeter is possible by noon.
Snow totals from today’s snow will usually be 1 to 2 inches, and some areas along I-94 and south of M-59 will receive as much as 3 inches by the end of this evening.
Snow showers turn off Saturday night. We still have to dress in layers with temperatures returning to the teens.
On Saturday night it will be mostly cloudy and icy. Lowest overnight positions will be in the one digits, with wind cold near or below zero.

Keep practicing your warm habits. Do not use stoves or ovens to keep warm. Move all space heaters away from anything flammable.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Sunday. This is a wonderful day to hang out with your sweetheart or spend time with the family. It will be partly sunny and cold. Afternoon temperatures will be in the low 20s; ten to fifteen degrees below average highs.
Short snow showers return, Sunday night and President’s Day, Monday. An inch of snow is possible on Monday, with snow falling mainly in the morning. Daytime temperatures will be in the mid and upper teens. Another day to dress in layers if you are going sledding or doing something outdoors.
A separate major storm running along the Appalachians will be big enough to bring more snow, Monday night and Tuesday. More than 1 inch of snow is possible, but it’s too early to know what the exact accumulation is. However, it would not be surprising to grab your snow digger again on Tuesday night or Wednesday. Tuesday’s highs will be near 20 degrees.
