Cockatoo missing near Tracy Aviary

SALT LAKE CITY – A red-tailed black cockatoo that escaped from the Tracy Aviary on Friday was located nearby on Saturday morning.

An aviary spokesman said the cockatoo, named Matilda, “flew with her babysitter when she was caught in a gust of wind and flew out of town” on Friday afternoon around 3pm. Thanks to a tip from the neighbors, Matilda was located just a block away on Saturday. from the birdcage.

This is not the first time the Tracy Aviary has had to wrestle the apostate cockatoo. Matilda also escaped the bird in January 2020, only to find herself safely in a nearby Liberty Park tree.

Matilda escaped for the first time in 2013, when she was less than a year old, and was not recovered for three days.
