Coast Guard searches for missing boat with 20 people on board from Bahamas to Palm Beach County

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Florida – Coast Guard officials said Wednesday they are looking for an overdue vessel with about 20 people on board en route from the Bahamas to Lake Worth Beach.

Officials said they received a report on Tuesday that it was known that the boat, a 29-foot blue and white Mako Cuddy Cabin, was leaving Bimini on Monday, but that it was not as expected.

According to the Coast Guard, according to the Coast Guard, it was reported that the vessel and people were on their way to Lake Worth Beach.

The Coast Guard said they were warned by the Royal Bahamas Defense Department on Wednesday to ask for help locating the boat.

“They did not have the name of the vessel, they said about 20 people on board, they did not specifically have their nationality or any names to keep,” Jose Hernandez told the U.S. Coast Guard.

Hernandez said the Coast Guard has been assisting in the Atlantic since 5 p.m.

“In this case, we do not really have the location except for the final destination, so we are just looking for the Gulf Stream between the Bahamas and South Florida,” he said.

Hernandez said the investigation is labor intensive.

“They take into account the size of the vessel, the amount of petrol and the car it has. Then you have other people outlining the actual currents, the actual weather,” he said.
