Coach K sobs to student reporter before asking for ’empathy’

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski took a moment of unprofessionalism when he spoke to a student reporter following his team’s 70-65 defeat to Louisville on Saturday.

Krzyzewski faced a harmless question: What is the next step forward if the Blue Devils move on next week?

“Yes, why do we not just evaluate this game,” Krzyzewski said post game. “You know, I’m not doing what our next step forward is. We just finished a hard game. ”

Then Coach K tried to relate to the student in an awkward exchange of words.

“I do not know if, when, what is important to you?” Ask Krzyzewski. ‘What’s your major at Duke? What is your most difficult class? ”

Piazza responds and says, “Econ.”

“OK, so, say you just had the toughest Econ test in the world,” Krzyzewski said. “And when you got out, someone asked you, ‘What’s your next step? “Do you see what I mean?” Just that you have empathy – just give us time to evaluate this game and then we will find out, just like we always try to do. ”

It’s not a good sign that Coach K, a 73-year-old man paid millions to deal with the hassle of his job, equates himself with a student completing an exam. The comparison is very clearly flawed.

If we are real, Coach K should show some empathy for this student reporter, who asked a simple question that does not deserve such a funny answer.
