CNN’s John Berman inadvertently says Trump was charged with ‘setting up’ the US Capitol

CNN anchor John Berman made an unfortunate gaffe on Monday while talking about the forthcoming Senate trial on former President Donald Trump.

The co-host of the “New Day” interviewed Senator Tina Smith, D-Minn., When the introduction to one of his questions became unintentionally graphic.

“So you sit down and listen to the Senate indictment of the former president of the United States, who was charged with inciting the establishment,” Berman said before stopping and correcting himself uncomfortably. “Er, incitement to the uprising at the American Capitol.”

This is not the first time that a prominent figure has coined the word ‘insurrection’ in the same way. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y. went viral last month after making a similar flub.

“Make no mistake, there will be a trial and when the trial ends, senators will have to decide if they believe Donald John Trump incited the establishment … insurgency against the United States,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.

The Senate hearing on Trump begins on February 9. The former president is expected to be acquitted of one article of ‘incitement to insurrection’.
