“When I say ‘experts’ in air quotes, it sounds like I do not really trust the experts because I do not know,” Cuomo told a news conference on Friday.
Gupta responded to the comments in an appearance on CNN’s “The Lead”.

“It’s true that New York has succeeded” in controlling the pandemic, Gupta continued, “but they had terrible numbers in the spring of last year, but were able to bring the numbers under control. Many of them were due to of experts and the execution of plans that are sometimes difficult to understand, but which make more and more sense over time. ”
Gupta further agreed with Tapper’s judgment that the remarks were “irresponsible”, especially given the number of “people already reluctant” to seek expert advice during the pandemic.
“They do not believe in the virus, they do not believe in getting the vaccine, they do not understand the value of testing it,” he said. “If you start taking away some of the experts’ credibility, I think it’s really very harmful.”
The New York Times reported Monday that nine senior state health officials have resigned, citing Cuomo’s leadership, including failing to follow the Department of Health’s vaccination plan, which precedes the coronavirus pandemic.
