CNN reporter accused of inciting China’s propaganda by comparing Hong Kong protesters to Capitol rioters

A CNN reporter is accused on Thursday of pushing China’s propaganda over a tweet linking the pro-Trump mob that stormed Capitol Hill to protesters in Hong Kong who, in defiance of the Chinese Communist Party regime, perform.

Following the violence that disrupted the certification of election president Joe Biden’s election victory, CNN International’s correspondent Will Ripley put together a picture of rioters climbing the exterior walls of the Capitol building with a picture of protesters marching in 2019 crashed on the Hong Kong Legislative Council.

“Hong Kong, 2019 – protesters storm the Legislative Council in Washington, 2021 – protesters storm the US capital,” Ripley tweeted.

Ripley then explained: “Top image shows HK’s pro-democracy movement and bottom image shows America’s pro-Trump movement. Two very different groups, but both feel marginalized / persecuted and disrupt a government they do not trust.”

Ripley’s comparison was sharply condemned by critics.

“Moral repulsion,” former New York Times editor Bari Weiss responded. “This is CCP propaganda delivered by a CNN reporter.”

“This is a VERY WRONG comparison,” exclaimed Nathan Law, a pro-democracy activist in Hong Kong. “The protesters in Hong Kong are fighting for legitimate demands for democracy and freedom. They have stormed a symbol of autocracy and political persecution. I do not think you want to equate the congress in Hong Kong with the US.”

CNN ACCUSED OF ‘LITERAL PUBLICATION OF CHINESE PROPAGANDA’

“An embarrassing bad tweet from a journalist who is usually off the top shelves,” reporter Melissa Chan wrote. “One group is a white nationalist, conspiratorial Q-mob that wants to trade in the outcome of a democratic election, and the other group wants free and fair elections if they oppose authoritarian communist China.”

“This comparison is so bloody wrong on many levels. If you do not know what you are saying, just do not say it,” wrote journalist Vivienne Chow.

“I really believe that someone who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese and has a good understanding of the political mood in Hong Kong would not have made this comparison,” tweeted Korean Herald correspondent Hyunsu Yim.

DON JR. BLASTS JIM ACOSTA TO SAY TRUMP IS ‘SCAPEGOATING’ CHINA FOR VIRUS: ‘MAYBE TIME FOR A NAME CHANGE FROM CNN TO XI NN’

“Media that went from ‘yesterday’s bad events’ to’ Comrades’ bows before President Xi ‘with surprising haste,” said founder and news editor Tom Elliott of Grabien.

“This is a very bad tweet,” said Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of Dispatch.

CNN did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Over the past few months, CNN has been repeatedly accused by critics of driving government propaganda through the coronavirus pandemic.

Donald Trump jr. In April, he mocked CNN’s anti-Trump reporter Jim Acosta, who accused his father of being a ‘scapegoat’ for China during the outbreak’s outbreak.

“Maybe time for a name change from CNN to Xi NN. That’s much more appropriate,” Trump Jr. said.

The same day, CNN.com was criticized for leading an article. Critics say “literally published Chinese propaganda” by referring to a Chinese-controlled media outlet that views the regime’s alleged control over the spread within one of its military branches.

CNN later updated its article, changed the headline and processed the story to make it seem somewhat skeptical of China’s allegations.

CNN further mocked in November for a report that finally linked the origin of the coronavirus to China, something critics said was “ten months too late”.
