CNN’s internal rival Brian Stelter continued to protect New York’s troubled Gov. Andrew Cuomo over the weekend, ignoring the latest bomb on the Democratic governor’s growing nursing home scandal during his “Reliable Resources” program on Sunday.
According to a damning report by the New York Post, a top assistant to Cuomo told leading Democratic lawmakers that the government withheld data on COVID-19 deaths at nursing homes to avoid federal investigation.

The revelation caused condemnation and even discussion of accusations in Albany, the state capital. Rep. Lee Zeldin, RN.Y., urged the Department of Justice to launch an obstruction of the judicial inquiry – but the CNN anchor does not consider it newsworthy enough to mention on his program.
A search for transcripts found that the words ‘nursing homes’ and ‘Andrew Cuomo’ were not uttered once on Sunday during 11 hours on CNN. MSNBC’s Sunday programs apparently also ignored the evolving scandal and instead devoted airtime to the aftermath of former President Donald Trump’s indictment and acquittal.
Both networks hailed the New York Democrat early on with glowing praise for his handling of the pandemic, and his prescription for nursing homes to accept patients who had or were suspected of having COVID-19 was largely ignored. The decision created an onslaught on COVID-19 cases that infected thousands of elderly patients and resulted in thousands of deaths among the state’s most vulnerable population.
Cuomo eventually reversed the course – but not before the state’s death toll reached alarming numbers in nursing homes.

The governor’s youngest brother, Chris Cuomo, has been widely ridiculed for avoiding difficult questions surrounding the old age home scandal early in the pandemic. The CNN anchor finally mentioned the controversy to his brother after ignoring it on the air during at least ten interviews, but Cuomo quickly pointed out how there were deaths in nursing homes “across the country” and said, “we need to find out how to do it better next time “before the next virus wave occurs.

The latest development sparked outrage last week when it was reported that Governor Melissa DeRosa, during a video conference call to leading Empire State Democrats, said the government had misrepresented the actual number of deaths to DOJ investigators for fear that the data ‘used against us. ‘
In August, the DOJ investigated coronavirus deaths in nursing homes in four states, including New York.
‘We were in a position where we were not sure whether what we would give to the Department of Justice, or what we would give to you, what we were starting to say, would be used against us while we were not. sure whether there will be an investigation, ”DeRosa told lawmakers according to the Post report.
Cuomo refused for months to release information on how the pandemic hit residents of the nursing home, but pointed to figures that were more favorable to his government.

Over the past few weeks, a court order and a report from the state’s attorney have forced the country to admit that the death rate at the nursing home is nearly 15,000, when it previously reported 8,500. The new toll amounts to about one-seventh of the people living in nursing homes in New York in 2019.
