BEREA, Ohio – A day after signing passenger Jadeveon Clowney, the Cleveland Browns terminated the contract to defend Sheldon Richardson.
Friday’s move will save $ 11 million on the hood, but that leaves the Browns with a big hole in the middle of their defensive line. There was no guaranteed money in Richardson’s contract.
He signed a three-year deal with the Browns before the 2019 season, with 31 games and 7.5 sacks over two seasons.
This off-season, the Browns signed Malik Jackson to compete for a starting job in the defensive battle. They also joined defensive tackle Andrew Billings on the squad after being selected last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cleveland signed Clowney on Thursday for a one-year deal worth up to $ 10 million.
Richardson was a first-round pick for the New York Jets in 2013. Cleveland’s other starting defensive tackle last year, Larry Ogunjobi, signed with Cincinnati this offseason.
