Clark County reports 8 new COVID-19 deaths as new case continues to decline

Clark County reported eight new deaths from COVID-19 on Friday as the average number of new cases dropped to its lowest level since October, according to Clark County Public Health.

Public Health said the deaths included two women in their 60s with underlying conditions, a man in his 70s with underlying conditions, and three women and two men aged 80 or older, with all but one of the men with underlying conditions.

Ten people have died of COVID-19 since February 5, down from 20 the previous week and 16 from the week ending January 29. According to COVID-19, 212 deaths have been blamed so far.

Public Health reported 29 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 17,735.

There have been on average about 48 new cases per day since February 5, down from about 77 cases per day the previous week and about 94 cases per day the week ending January 29th. The total number of cases peaked in the week ending January 8, with an average of about 180 new cases per day.

The number of new cases this week was the lowest since the seven days to October 23, when public health reported an average of about 43 new cases per day.

The number of active cases dropped to 351 on Friday, compared to 376 on Thursday, which according to public health data shows a continuing decline in the number of people still in their isolation period.

Hospitalizations have dropped slightly, with 33 people hospitalized with COVID-19, lower than 37 on Thursday, and six people waiting in hospital awaiting test results, up from 14 on Thursday.

As of Friday, 84.4 percent of licensed ICU beds in Clark County were occupied, lower than 85.9 percent Thursday.
