Clark County COVID-19 cases continue to increase as vaccine opportunities expand

Clark County on Thursday reported 84 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 when Washington opened its vaccination program to anyone 16 years or older.

The new cases include 67 confirmed cases, pushing the province’s total to 20,201, according to public health data. An average of 60 new cases per day have been reported since Friday, compared to an average of 46 new cases per day the previous week.

The number of cases has increased since reaching a low of about 29 cases a day in early March, warning residents in the area to continue wearing masks, removing themselves socially and washing hands and disinfecting – even if they have been vaccinated.

In addition to confirmed cases, Public Health on Thursday reported 17 new probable cases, pushing up to 781 cases. Officials began reporting this number this week, and the detection of cases has been identified by faster but less accurate antigen testing. Confirmed cases are diagnosed by molecular (PCR) tests.

The number of active cases, which traces the confirmed and probable cases that are still in their isolation period, rose to 491 on Thursday, up from 33 compared to Wednesday.

No new deaths due to COVID-19 were reported on Thursday. So far, 248 deaths have been reported; three deaths were reported Wednesday. Deaths are usually added to the province’s score 10 to 12 days after it has occurred.

The hospital admissions fell, with 15 people admitted to the hospital on Thursday with COVID-19, compared to Thursday 19 and no one was waiting for the test results.

Public health officials said the country’s vaccine supply remains good as the vaccines are available to anyone 16 years or older. The province received 9,220 first doses and 7,920 second doses that had to be administered until Sunday, without the vaccination that was directly assigned to pharmacies by the federal government.

As of Saturday, 217,684 vaccine doses have been administered in Clark County, with 146,438 Clark County residents receiving at least one dose and 99,266 Clark County residents being fully vaccinated, according to public health data.
