The ‘WandaVision’ star and ‘Crown’ actress play the Duke and Duchess of Argyll in the new season of the BBC / Amazon limited series, titled ‘A Very British Scandal’.

The crown actress Claire Foy in WandaVision Paul Bettany, the main star, signed A very British scandal, season 2 of the limited series BBC / Amazon Studios A very English scandal, which re-examines tabloid “scandals” of the past.

Bettany and Foy will play the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, a high-society couple whose public divorce was a pony newspaper in 1960s Britain. Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, famous for her charisma, beauty and style, was slandered by the press, accused of forgery, theft, violence and drug abuse, with the media coverage at the time an explicit Polaroid image.

Sarah Phelps writes the text for the three-part limited series, which Anne Sewitsky (Happy happy) will direct. The shooting starts later this year in the UK.

“Writing the story of Margaret’s life and the events that led to her divorce from the Duke has been a passion project of mine since 1993 when I first heard her name and started learning from her,” said Phelps in a statement. ‘I felt very strongly that she was punished because she was a woman, that she was visible, because she refused to return, was a good girl and went quietly. This drama is my tribute to her. ‘

“I’m so excited to work with Anne, Sarah and Paul on this extraordinary project and to explore through this story how often shame, judgment and controversy surround a woman’s sexuality,” Foy said.

Bettany added that he “was delighted to work with the remarkable Claire Foy to tell the fascinating and scandalous story of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll and their very complicated lives.”

The three-part series will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and will be available on Amazon Prime Video in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Sony Pictures Television handles international sales for the series and markets the deal with Amazon Studios. SPT-backed Blueprint Pictures produces the series.

A very English scandal (2018) plays Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw and focuses on the leader of the British Liberal Party, Jeremy Thorpe (Grant), who was forced to stand trial in 1979, accused of conspiracy to kill his gay ex-lover (Whishaw).
