City of San Antonio to Convert Alamodome to Mass, Free COVID-19 Vaccination Site

SAN ANTONIO The city of San Antonio will begin distributing Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to eligible candidates next week. Registration for the vaccine begins Saturday, January 9th.

The city is turning the Alamodome into a free mass vaccine from Monday. The site is open from Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 20:00

‘The vaccination site at the Alamodome is an important step forward in our fight to eradicate the pandemic. This website will speed up the vaccination process and help us provide protection to San Antonio residents as soon as possible, ”said Ron Nirenberg, Mayor, in a statement.

Those eligible to receive the vaccines include health workers and residents at long-term care facilities, known as Phase 1A, and Phase 1B, which includes residents over the age of 65 or residents aged 16 and over with a chronic medical condition.

These chronic medical conditions include: cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), heart conditions, solid organ transplantation, obesity and severe obesity, pregnancy, sickle cell disease and type 2 diabetes.

According to city officials, as many as 1,500 people a day can receive the vaccine. However, those wishing to receive the vaccine must register in advance.

Not everyone who is eligible will be able to receive the vaccine yet, but Dr. Collen Bridger, assistant city manager, said more vaccinations are on the way in the coming weeks.

“The more people we can vaccinate, the better for our community. “Our goal is to distribute vaccines to our most vulnerable population, which we believe is at greater risk for COVID-19 complications,” he said. Colleen Bridger said in a statement. “There is a shortage of vaccine, but it is increasing weekly, so if you can not vaccinate this week, please know that there is more on the way.”

Anyone living in Bexar County or in one of the other 26 municipal districts can, according to Judge Nelson Wolff, come to the Alamodome in Bexar to receive their COVID-19 vaccine, if eligible.

Once again, registration for the vaccine will open on Saturday. To register, visit covid19.sanantonio.gov/vaccine, or call 311 and select option B.
