Cincinnati Bearcats Hire Wes Miller as New Men’s Basketball Coach

Cincinnati announced on Wednesday that it has appointed former UNC Greensboro coach Wes Miller as its next head coach for men’s basketball.

The school said in a statement that Miller would get a six-year contract.

Miller has been with UNCG for ten seasons. Over the past five seasons, he has led the Spartans to three regular season championships and two NCAA Tournament tournaments. UNCG has finished 13-5 or better in the Southern Conference over the past five seasons.

“I am honored to lead such an in-depth program and excited to get to work,” Miller said in a statement. “I can not thank UNCG enough either, because I would not be here without my players and athletic director Kim Record. Over the past decade, coaching the Spartans has been very rewarding. ‘

This past season, the Spartans won the regular season and the SoCon Conference Tournament before dropping to No. 4 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Florida State.

Miller, 38, was one of the leading candidates for North Carolina’s subject coach earlier this month before the Tar Heels decided to appoint Hubert Davis as a replacement. Miller was born in North Carolina and played under Williams in Chapel Hill. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Elon and High Point before moving to UNC Greensboro in 2010 as an assistant coach. He was promoted to head coach a year later.

Miller replaces John Brannen, who was sacked last week after two seasons following an investigation into the program. The school placed Brannen on leave in early April after six players entered the transfer portal in the first three days after the end of the season.
