The new Chromecast with Google TV may be the future of Android in your living room, but it also seems to be another Google product plagued by software issues (I’m looking at you, Pixels). Shortly after an error was detected asking users to repair their devices due to data corruption, a new one affecting the Nest speaker groups is gaining steam.
The problem arises when users try to broadcast audio to speaker groups that include the Chromecast with Google TV – it does not occur if only to this device. As described by various users on Google’s support forums, everything works fine at the beginning of a session, but at some point shortly thereafter, the sound stops playing on all speakers and continues. This happens regardless of whether YouTube Music, Spotify or any other cast is used. The issue is not particularly new – the earliest complaint dates back to October 2020 – but it has not yet been resolved, even after the February 2021 update.
The closest we can currently find to a solution is to take advantage of the multi-chamber audio control introduced by Google last year. According to the user who shared the tip, the version on the device itself and not all speakers is interrupted to add the Chromecast with Google TV to an existing cast. However, this is not an ideal solution, as there is no certainty about when – or even if – the device starts playing audio.
If you’ve used someone who uses Nest speaker groups a lot, you might want to think twice before including your Google TV Chromecast with your party. We contacted Google for comments and we’ll update this article when we hear about it.
