Choke of visions in the Congress on the status of the island

After the celebration of the first visit to the Congregational projects in the state of Puerto Rico, the Congresswoman Raúl Grijalva made sure that there is a large division in Iceland and in the Congress on the political future of the country.

The Committee on Natural Resources conducted a marathon visit in which the Projects of the Chamber of Deputies were discussed in 1522 — by the author of the Congress, Darren Soto, and the commissioner of the resident, Jenniffer González — and the project of 2070 — by the author of the Congress, Nydia Velázquez and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—. The first proposed by the Puerto Rican administration as a state of the United States law of the celebration of a second consular state is no. While the Second Legislative Assembly claims to have created a Statute of the Regulators in which delegates will discuss the status options that will be presented as alternatives to the people in a referendum.

“There is division, without doubt. Not only in Puerto Rico in terms of the opinion of the state, but also in the Congress. There is a difference in the Senate and in the Chamber. But we must continue with these discussions that are critical. The Congress has an important role to play in this discussion “, said Grijalva, who chairs the committee that holds the support of Iceland in the Congress.

As part of this mid-term discussion, Grijalva made sure he consulted with President Biden’s administration Joe Biden to clarify the posture in the validity of the celebratory consultation in the November elections during the 52% election the votes. Asimismo, indicates that he filed a lawsuit against the Federal Justice Department and that he was speaking out against both legislative projects.

In the middle of the vista, congressman like Democrat Rubén Gallego and Republican Bruce Westerman will show his support for the 1522 project that proposes the Puerto Rican administration as it stands. While others like the representative Ed Case will show preoccupation with the figure that was obtained in November.

While González, in his distinctions during the visit, emphasizes the majority of his questions to Professor Ponsa-Kraus in questioning the constitutionality of the 2070 project of Velázquez and Ocasio-Cortez.

In his speech, Governor Pedro Pierluisi defended the results of the celebratory consultation in November and agreed that the Congress should repeal the 1522 project that would promote Puerto Rico’s administration as a state.

“This is not the moment for another long and complicated process for debating options. The electorate has expressed its clear form and it is time that the Congress accepts its results”, said the governor during his initial decision.

During the visit, each project accounts with four testigans’ n guns. The project 1522 was defended by Pierluisi; Johanne Vélez, Vice President of the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico; José Fuentes, President of the Council of State and Professor of Columbia University Christina Ponsa Kraus. While the 2070 project is being ‘n guns, the ex-governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá; the candidate for the San Juan Alcaldia by the Victoria Ciudadana Movement, Manuel Natal; the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Rafael ‘Tatito’ Hernández and the Senator of the Puerto Rican Independent Party (PIP), María de Lourdes Santiago.

The vista is protagonized by constant shocks and criticisms between any project with mayoral democratic guarantees. The parties to the 1522 project oppose the Velázquez and Ocasio-Cortez project to the anti-democratic project and to a project that ignores the results of the November consultation.

Acevedo Vilá, in the midst of the vote, mentioned on various occasions that the legislation that promotes the status consultation in November 2020 was drawn up by a majority of the New Progressive Party (PNP) and that it excludes the current legislative minorities. “All the draft law has been enacted to favor a single lad,” commented Congressman Velázquez.

The ex-governor and candidate for the resident commissioner, in addition, planted the status in the island following a polarizing discussion and that the state did not have a clear majority as arguing for its defenders. Indicates that the study that a Hart Research entity study shows that, in the most young generations between 18-34 years of age, support for the study is reduced to 34%. While it supports other options such as the Free Association and the Independent increase to 20% and 15%, respectively.

For its part, Natal points out that the 2070 project fires a “level game space” different from the 1522 project, the one planted in Puerto Rico in a situation of insufficiency. Assimilation, mentioning that during the electoral elections, 18,000 ballots will be identified in excess in relation to the consultation of the city no.

Question of the constitutionality of the project 2070

González, for its part, has raised on several occasions the constitutionality of the 2070 project and has the option to discuss status options that he has submitted to Congress. Asimismo, Professor Ponsa-Krause also mentions that the 2070 project will have the alternative discussion of the status quo that has been discussed and will not be approved by the Congress. “What is urgent is that we can not engage the people of Puerto Rico in creating that we can select options that we do not really have”, that is, who rejects the free association as a debit status option and that it is a form of Independence.

Ponsa-Kraus, in the wake of Republican Congressman Bruce Westerman, also criticized the Velázquez government’s project, intending to oblige a congressional resolution to adopt a joint resolution on the status options and the negation of one the delegates who propose the media.

Velázquez defended on several occasions on his piece of legislation and commented that the state was not excluded from the proposal. “This medium is a way of empowering the Puerto Rican people to finally decide its political future … I do not understand what the theme of this medium is that it should not lead to the state”, indicated.

In its allocation, the governor minimized the fact that the state had not obtained a greater result during the November consultation and ensured that “the mayoral mandate”. “As in any democracy, as it is Puerto Rico, the mayoral mandate. As well as how the democracies around the world work,” he said. In addition, it is argued that the November consultation was an inclusion and a reduction in the plant resources of Acevedo Villa and Natal in the absence of representation in the process. “Esa consult n pudo haber sido más inclusive”, agregó.

Preview ceded his turn to Velázquez, the Congresswoman of Hawaii, Case, indicating that he favored the state for the island, considering that the result obtained in November was very low in comparison with those in Hawaii in Alaska. “I’m inclined to favor Soto’s and González’s project … But I’m angry that the support for the state has gone further. To be honest, I think it’s much easier,” commented the congresswoman.

During the visit, Hernández made the only testimony that he did not receive from the congressmen.
