Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that his country would not pursue hegemony no matter how powerful it becomes.

“No matter how strong it may grow, China will never seek hegemony, expansion or a sphere of influence, and China will never participate in an arms race,” Xi said during the opening ceremony of the annual Boao Forum for Asia in the Chinese province of Hainan. .

Xi also promotes China as a champion of globalization and the multilateral trading system.

Without naming countries, Xi said international rules should not be set by one or a few countries.

Relations between the US and China began under the administration of President Joe Biden.

Biden said last month that China has a “general goal of becoming the leading country, the richest country in the world and the most powerful country in the world.” Biden said he would not let it happen under his supervision.
