Patrick Mahomes plays in Super Bowl LV today, and that’s the most important part of dealing with his back injury. But the Chiefs quarterback’s turf tone has not disappeared.
According to sources, following the match against the Buccaneers today, Mahomes is expected to see a foot specialist and he will probably be operated on to restore his sick tone. The expectation is that it will not heal on its own, an indication of how serious the injury is.
Mahomes was listed on the injury report every day this week because of his tone, but he trained fully. He does not have a game status.
But watch him run and you can see that the tone is affecting him. With an offensive line like year-round, mobility is key.
One source with direct knowledge of his injury was amazed: “It’s amazing how good he looked in the case.”
Mahomes was also injured when he competed in the AFC Championship, and all he did was go 29-out-38 and pass 325 yards with three touchdowns.
Asked how his tone feels, Mahomes said it is much better.
‘The two weeks to let it rest and heal,’ Mahomes said, ‘especially almost three weeks, more than three weeks away from the injury. If you look at the type of injuries, you give the normal timeline. Definitely every day I let it rest makes it better. ‘
