Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes suffers from turf, not 100 percent

While Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has cleared the NFL’s concussion record, it’s not the only injury for the former MVP.

According to sources, Mahomes was diagnosed with a turf toe in his left foot after winning the division over the Cleveland Browns, an injury that limited his efficiency on the field last week and during practice.

Mahomes currently has no injury status and took almost all of the reps during practice week that looked more like a series of runs. When he clears the protocol, his injury status is removed and he plays against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

Of the tone, Mahomes said: “The next day was very painful, and since then it has gotten much better.”

From now on, there is not necessarily the belief that Mahomes needs surgery on the plantar plate injury. However, a source said he will be re-evaluated by a foot specialist after the season to determine if he needs surgery.

Mahomes had no adverse effects or symptoms due to the concussion protocol, and the tone is considered a major problem.

As for the concussion protocol, the Chiefs did not specifically say that Mahomes had a concussion. When she referred to it, coach Andy Reid said Mahomes was “in the protocol” without saying that Mahomes had a concussion.

Mahomes was placed in the protocol after being taken to the ground this past weekend and struggling and staggering while trying to walk. That alone was enough to put him in the protocol.

As one source explained, it is not relevant whether Mahomes specifically had concussion or not. When a player has a transient neurological event, the goal is to ensure that his brain has fully recovered by the time he takes the field.

All concussions are different and all symptoms are different. But as soon as there is a change in brain function (as evidenced by the tests of a neurologist), it is in the protocol.

Therefore, Mahomes, whose oral concussion test contains one missing question, was placed in the protocol and eventually excluded. The fact that he did not experience any symptoms this week is positive.

“I will be there and be myself,” Mahomes said.
