Chicago police sergeant shot dead outside district

A Chicago police sergeant was shot in the face in the 6th District Sunday afternoon, the department said.

Police Superintendent David O. Brown in Chicago said the sergeant had picked up a pasture in the ken area and was transported to a local hospital in good condition.

Brown said the sergeant is recovering in hospital and is in a good mood. ‘

“Our officers show an enormous degree of resilience and put them in harm’s way every day, whether it is responding to a call or simply standing in their own parking lot,” Brown said.

It remains unclear whether the sergeant – whose identity was not disclosed – was deliberately targeted or hit by a stray bullet.
