Chicago Mayor Lightfoot denies ‘homophobic, racist’ resignation rumors

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has denied what she calls ‘homophobic, racist and misogynistic rumors’, claiming she resigned Sunday.

The mayor of the country’s third largest city issued the denial after a night of rumors spread on Twitter and elsewhere.

“Good morning from my mansion in Sauganash,” Lightfoot posted, citing widespread rumors last summer that she had bought a million-dollar mansion in the upscale Northside neighborhood.

“But seriously, our city has no time for homophobic, racist and misogynistic rumors, today or any day,” Lightfoot continued.

“It is shocking and disappointing to see some media members and verified Twitter handles proclaim this trash as truth.”

Unconfirmed rumors about Lightfoot’s alleged threatening resignation spread on Twitter on Saturday night until early Sunday morning.

Chicago has been going on for weeks after a city man shot and killed 13-year-old Adam Toledo last month.

Authorities earlier described the shooting as an “armed confrontation”, but disturbing images from the cameras released on Thursday showed Toledo was unarmed with his hands at the time he was shot.

In her tweets Sunday, Lightfoot asked residents of the city to disregard the rumors and get behind her leadership.

“If people have not noticed it, we have big challenges in Chicago that we need to address TOGETHER,” she said.

‘Everyone who wants to work with me to make progress, I’m ready. Even if we do not always see eye to eye, if you really like this city and want to share in its improvement, let us do the work. The rest of you, get out of the way, ”she said.

Lightfoot’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.
