‘Chicago Fire’ Summary: Season 9, Episode 3 – Casey / Brett

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Chicago Fire. Proceed at your own risk!

Chicago FireThe return Wednesday was difficult for different delivery factions, with not one but two pairings getting a hit.

First, Casey and Brett had a much-needed conversation about the sudden end of their make-up session. “My feelings for you, they really are, Sylvie, regardless of Gabby,” Casey reassures the blonde, who quickly replies, “There is no ‘regardless of Gabby.’ That’s the point. “

To make things very clear, Brett added: ‘What happened between us cannot happen again. Ever. “And although she does not want to lose Casey’s friendship, Brett requested that he give her ‘some space now’ because she ‘can not go back to the way things were’ before they closed their lips.

Casey later confessed to Severide that he had had no contact with his ex-wife for months. “Sylvie was the only one in my mind,” he admitted. But she wants space, and the strength of his feelings is exactly why he should retire. “Maybe it’s the best,” Casey concluded.

Elsewhere, Severide discovered that people were gossiping about Stella’s rapid climb on the CFD ladder and how it was likely not to hurt her connected firefighter. Like his friend, Severide decides to give Stella her space instead of helping her study for the lieutenant exam as he promised. When Severide offered his girlfriend a vague excuse rather than explaining the situation, Stella noticed his “strange” behavior to Brett.

Below, presenter Derek Haas looks at the new characters that will thwart Brett and Casey’s potential romance, and reveals how concerned fans of Severide and Stella should be.

TVLINE | Casey says he’s going to give her to Brett space – or at least that’s what he tells Severide. How steadfast will he be in it? Will he actually follow it, or maybe he’s going to fight Brett?
There are going to be some more obstacles in the relationship, in terms of some new characters appearing in the next episode. There’s a look on Casey’s face that you’ll know when you see it in Episode 4. I thought Jesse Spencer did very well to convey a lot with just a glance … It’s going on for a while be no more of them at all.

TVLINE | Are these new characters new love interests?
These are, I would say, potential barriers to a Brett / Casey relationship.

TVLINE | Brett is very determined about the fact that Gabby is always going to be a problem, but Casey says he hasn’t really thought about her lately. Is this then something they can reconcile?
Well, I do not know. Honestly, I can tell you the origin of it, and where I felt it was a very honest conversation was that on our show we were trying our best as writers to acknowledge and honor the history of the show. Therefore, we will bring out characters that do not exist for seven seasons, such as when Severide went to pick up the door of the ambulance to honor the memory of Shay. And with Gabby, the audience watched six years of this relationship between Casey and Gabby, and then she came back last season – at this moment, actually – and they slept together again. So it’s not something you can just pull up, and Brett knew Gabby very well. So when Casey says, “Well, regardless of Gabby,” and Brett says, “There’s no ‘regardless of Gabby,'” it felt really honest to me and how it would happen in real life.

TVLINE | But the fact that he’s not really thinking about Gabby lately does that mean he’s moved on? Did he get some closure in the relationship?
Well, he might think so, but I’m not sure if that’s true.

TVLINE | And it doesn’t look like Brett would believe it. It looks like they’re not on the same page.
No. This is a very good description.

Chicago Fire SpoilersTVLINE | Severide distances herself from Stella because he hears what people are saying about her and the potential job promotion. How much of the toll is it going to take for their relationship?
It’s going to get bad, because Severide can be frustrating because he does not always express what is on his mind. [Laughs] And sometimes he gets these ideas on how to deal with things that he thinks are best and do not realize that he is doing harm. But in his mind he is doing the right thing, and he wants Stella to achieve her dreams on her terms and does not want anyone to think that there was some kind of favoritism or shortcut for her. So he thinks he’s doing the right thing, but will it be interpreted correctly? Probably not.
