Chicago Bears target QB Mac Jones in new spot

The Chicago Bears are a team that is ripe with needs in different positions, which makes next month’s NFL concept incredibly important for a team that we believe is in win-now mode.

Quarterback remains the biggest concern for the Bears after a few weeks of flirting with the possibility of trading for Seattle Seahawks fullback Russell Wilson. After offering three choices in the first round, a third round and two players, Seattle told Chicago that they are not currently trading with Wilson.

Even after the Bears lost the Wilson game, they still manage to find their (potential) franchise quarter without having to trade to move up in the draft in a new spot.

In the new mockery of Touchdown Wire, Doug Farrar lined up Alabama eighthman Mac Jones in Chicago with the 20th overall pick.

If you’re wondering how Jones could possibly drop to 20th in a draft where there are teams desperate in the quarterback position, Farrar has you covered.

Why would it drop to 20? Because the modern NFL needs quarterbacks to show mobility and responsiveness, and Jones hasn’t shown much of that at all. But he’s an excellent businessman (the combination of liability and asset is why so many mock him with the Patriots), and maybe he can be developed into a league-average car on boots and scolding. From day 1, however, he is an improvement in terms of what the Bears are up there on the position.

But the Bears do not want to fall on Jones at number 20, and it does not sound like they are going to trade to pick one of the top five fullbacks.

That’s why they apparently do a lot of homework on day 2 quarterbacks, including Kyle Trask of Florida, Kellen Mond of Texas A&M, Jamie Newman of Georgia and Ian Book of Notre Dame.

The belief is also that Jones – or the other four best quarterback prospects – are long gone before Chicago’s innings reach number 20. But if Jones were to fall to the Bears in the first round, it would be hard to imagine GM Ryan Pace passing him by.
