Chevrolet will build an electric Silverado with a distance of 400 kilometers

GM has invested billions in its Ultium EV platform, so you can expect the carmaker to use the technology to electrify models in its brands. One of his vehicles that will soon have an electric version is the Silverado pickup, General Motors president Mark Reuss announced. He also revealed that the electrified pickup will be built alongside the recently announced Hummer EV at GM’s new Factory ZERO.

According to the carmaker, the electric Silverado was designed from the ground up to be an electric vehicle and available in retail and fleet versions. It can also be 400 miles on a single charge – at least based on GM’s estimate. That may change based on the EPA rating, but if the vehicle can actually reach 400 miles without recharging, the range will withstand Tesla’s 2020 Long-Range Plus Model S.

Reuss said in a statement:

“The vehicles coming from Factory ZERO will change the world and how the world views electric vehicles,” Reuss said. “The GMC HUMMER EV SUV joins its stablemate in the field of true super trucks, and Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado – and more – and place it in an electric pickup that will serve small and commercial customers. rejoice. ‘

GM has not released many details about the upcoming Silverado EV, but according to Autoblog, its production will begin in late 2022. Furthermore, it will reportedly be available as early as 2023 as a 2024 model. Factory ZERO, where the vehicle is manufactured, is GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. The carmaker has invested $ 2.2 billion in the facility, specifically to enable it to manufacture a variety of electric trucks and sport utility vehicles. In addition to the Silverado EV and the Hummer EV, which will begin production later this year, GM will also build the Cruise Origin (a self-driving electric shuttle bus) at the factory.
