Cherokee County, Georgia, Sheriff’s spokesman reportedly posted a photo of a racist, anti-Asian Covid-19 shirt on Facebook

“Covid 19 imported virus from Chy-na,” reads the racist shirt in the photo posted on April 2, 2020.

Although the account it posted was deleted, CNN was able to access the photos through a cash copy. The name on the Facebook account corresponds to Jay Baker, and it claims that the person is an employee of the Sheriffee office.

The Daily Beast reports first on the racist shirt photo. They also reported that the account posted photos of Baker in uniform, with his name tag visible.

Sheriff's Capt. Jay Baker.

When asked by CNN about the report, Baker told CNN: “No additional comment.”

‘Love my shirt’, reads the photo caption of the shirt. It encourages others to buy their own shirts that say, ‘Get yours while they last.’ CNN reached out to the store that sells the shirts, but did not immediately respond.

Fetishized, sexualized and marginalized, Asian women are uniquely vulnerable to violence

CNN also reached out to Facebook to see if they had deleted the account, or if it was the user who did it but did not get a response.

This allegation comes as criticism of Baker’s description of suspect Robert Aaron Long of spa shooting Tuesday continues to grow.

“He was quite fed up and was at the end of his rope,” Baker told a news conference on Wednesday. “Yesterday was a very bad day for him, and that’s what he did.”
