Cher criticized George Floyd’s tweet: ‘Maybe if I were there … I could help’

Cher got hot on social media on Friday night over a tweet she posted saying that while watching the Derek Chauvin murder trial on television, she kept wondering if she could help George Floyd if she died on the scene was.

“I talked to mom and she said, ‘I watched a trial of a cop who killed and cried George Floyd,'” Cher wrote. “I said, ‘Mom, I know this is going to sound MIND, but … I thought … maybe I should have been there, … I could have helped. ‘

While many of her fans appreciate the sentiments, others have implied that she is acting like a ‘white savior’.

‘This is the yt rescuer complex for me. There’s still time to delete it … ‘, one commenter wrote while another’ George Floyd’s murder is not about you. ‘

Another commentator claims that Cher’s tweet sought to underscore the efforts of witnesses who were at the scene in Minneapolis last May and tried to help Floyd.

“There were MULTIPLE testimonies from everyone, from a firefighter to an MMA fighter to a senior man trying to spread the situation,” the commentator wrote.

“I like my cher but oof. It was a little too white savior complex for me. I know she meant well and probably did not understand .. honey … no,” wrote another.

In defense of others’ critical tweets, another Twitter user said it was “tired” for black people to see white people “using our horror as their hypothetical heroism.”

However, many fans defended the singing legend.

“Why is someone mad at Cher?” one person wrote. ‘Most people who have seen it think or hope they could help. That’s why so many of the witnesses are crying on the stand. If Cher uses her fame to say thank you. ‘

Cher wrote another tweet earlier this week in which he applauded the witnesses trying to help.
