Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic explains the biggest difference between Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard

Chelsea midfielder Matteo Kovacic has discussed the differences between the club under Thomas Tuchel and former boss Frank Lampard.

The Blues continued their unbeaten record under the new boss when they beat Tottenham away from home on Thursday night.

A penalty from Jorginho was enough to earn Tuchel’s team the three points and see them in sixth place in the Premier League series.

Throughout the game, Chelsea dominated possession and had 16 shots compared to Tottenham’s seven.

And Kovacic then explained that since taking over from Lampard, Tuchel has put a lot of focus on trying to get his team to move the ball forward and create chances.

On the club website, the midfielder discussed the Tottenham performance and revealed what Tuchel said in training.

Kovacic said: ‘I think we have improved a lot in the last three games, we have seven points. But we have to go game by game and try to be as up as possible, and I think we can do that.

“I think we have few problems – we did not succeed against Burnley either. In the last 15 minutes we were 1-0 ahead and it could be even more.

‘It’s something we need to improve to finish matches. I think this is one thing we will be working on a lot.

‘He [Tuchel] explained to us what he wants. This is exactly it – to play fast forward, to create chances, to be in the middle of the opposition.

“I think we’ve improved a lot over the last three games, but I can be even better and even more confident.

“In the coming games we will be even better and we have to be even better because we can do it.”

Chelsea’s win over Tottenham was their second in three games, and Kovacic expressed a desire to keep in good shape, saying: ‘This is a good run. I think it should be nine because we had a great game against Wolves, unfortunately we did not win. But today we had a good game again.

“Unfortunately we did not score the second point to be more relaxed in the last 15/20 minutes. But it was a good game from us and we have to keep going. ”
