Chelsea and Manchester City prepare for European Super League withdrawal in a hammer blow for breakaway competition

LONDON – Chelsea are preparing to withdraw from the European Super League less than 48 hours after joining the breakaway competition, a source confirmed to CBS Sports.

Less than 48 hours after they and 11 other clubs have announced they will be joining the midweek competition, the Blues launched their withdrawal from drafting in a hammer blow for the plans of some of Europe’s biggest parties.

Stamford Bridge was engulfed by protests before the Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion, and although sources at the club have indicated that the events in West London should not be seen as the only reason behind Chelsea’s remarkable exit from the Super League, it is impossible to to consider anything other than a sign that the shouting from across the football community has caused a change of heart.

Chelsea are one of six Premier League clubs to form the breakaway competition alongside Arsenal, Liverpool Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Following Chelsea’s withdrawal plans, Manchester City are also preparing to drop the project, with Fabrizio Romano, the CBS footballer, reporting that they want to be out of the Super League and are preparing to leave the effort.
