Check out the original Thunderhawk Gunship, the most ridiculous model of Warhammer 40K

Games Workshop gets very sad about the cost of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop miniature game. Few people would argue that its models are not one of the most detailed and ambitious markets, but there was a time when even Games Workshop went a little overboard. I’m talking about the legendary Thunderhawk Gunship, one of the most expensive Warhammer models ever created.

I’ve been following YouTuber Emil “Squidmar” Nyström for a few years now, tips and inspiration for painting miniatures. He was able to locate and buy one of these original Thunderhawk Gunship models. Only 500 or so were ever produced for sale in 1997, and each costs a whopping $ 649.99. Adjusted for inflation around $ 1,050.

Why is it so expensive? It was a time before plastic miniatures were the norm, and the whole model was made of metal. The model plus its box weighs more than 22 pounds. There are 204 pieces, and the touchpoints are completely flat. Putting the whole thing together with super glue sounds like a nightmare … but he’s going to whirl it up and share the results with his audience.

Nyström has been teasing the project for a while now, but on Thursday he dropped a proper unboxing video. Take a look at a tour of a real tabletop history. And if you love your own Thunderhawk, know that they’re still for sale on the Forge World website. The new sculptor is made entirely of resin and will save you $ 735 back.

Warhammer 40,000 is now in its 9th edition and selling well, thanks in part to a new, eye-catching box set and a mobile app. There’s also a new range that makes your armies easier than ever before. Finally, there is also a small version of the game’s footprint Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. With that, you only need a handful of models and some simple scenery to get started in the dark darkness of the distant future.
