Check out the new Porsche 911 GT3 Blitz The Nurburgring Nordschleife

The Nurburgring Nordschleife can mean many other things than those in the car space. While many car manufacturers use the infamous tarmac for validation tests, others see it as a battlefield for lap records. As such, Porsche recently posted a video on board of its latest 911 GT3 shooting around Green Hell.

Porsche test driver Lars Kern is behind the wheel and that’s a good thing. If you did not think he had all the petrol joggers’ dream job, think again, because he also drives a Porsche 911 GT3R in the American IMSA endurance racing series with Pfaff motorsport.

Aside from the semantics, we knew the latest GT3 would be fast, but we did not expect this level of performance. For uninitiated, it completed a round in just under seven minutes – 6: 59.927 to be exact. It may sound like a jumble of numbers, but to give perspective what is there 12 seconds faster than the previous generation GT3 and 6 seconds faster than the RS model.

As for the lap, Lars is surprisingly brilliant behind the wheel. We often talk about how much time there is on the table with benchmarks like this, but it is clear that Mr. Core knows nothing but to drive around everywhere; his dedication through high-speed divisions such as Airport and Döttinger Höhe shows the fact that racers are truly a different race.

Of course, the GT3 is not as fast as its GT2 RS brother or sister, but that’s not what the car is about. Instead of overall power, the mid-ground machine has always been about delivering a brilliant behind-the-wheel experience, and the latest example is clearly no exception.
