There are many questions about the upcoming Super Mario movie from Nintendo and Illumination, but one of the biggest concerns Mario will voice. Truth be told, we do not even know if Mario will be pronounced or not! You would think that Mario would have some sort of lines in the movie, as he intervenes in the games from time to time.
While we wait to learn more about the cast for the film, it seems that Mario’s voice that we all know and love is possibly not involved in the project. In a GalaxyCon Live interview with none other than Charles Martinet, he asked about his thoughts on the upcoming movie. A portion of Charles’ response is as follows.
“… if they invite me to play, I will go in and play with great joy and happiness.”
Now it can be taken in two different ways. The most obvious way is that Mr. Martinet was simply not asked to play the role. The second way of looking at it is that we consider Charles’ remarks to be playful. It is likely that Charles would not have been able to confirm / deny his work on the film, so the precise wording of the statement above may surround the question.
Fans will no doubt be upset if Mr. Martinet does not express Mario in the film, but films with big names tend to carry out their projects with their Hollywood stars. We’ll just have to hold on and see what direction Nintendo and Illumination go.
