Complaints were permanently dismissed with prejudice against Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, who reportedly shot a police officer during the deadly raid that killed Taylor.
Judge Olu Stevens of the Jefferson Circuit Court in Kentucky on Monday signed an order to permanently close the criminal case against Kenneth L. Walker. Stevens’ order rejected the 2020 accusation against Walker with bias, meaning it could not be reconsidered.

Taylor was fatally shot by police who burst through her door on March 13, 2020 with a drug warrant. She and Walker approached that evening when police arrived and slammed the door. Walker said he thought an intruder was breaking in and he fired a single shot that Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly in the thigh.

‘I’m not naive enough to believe it, A, maybe Kenneth Walker did not hear us, or B, it [attorneys] could not convince any of the 12 people that he did not hear us, ”Mattingly said in October.
Mattingly recovered from the bone wound and remains in Louisville police.
In a motion by Walker’s attorney requesting the permanent dismissal under Kentucky’s provisions on ‘stand your ground’, Walker ‘acted in self-defense and that he did not know the police were on the other side of the door. ‘
Prosecutors dismissed an attempted murder of a police officer against Walker in May, about two months after Taylor’s death. Prosecutors, however, missed the opportunity to revisit the charge against Walker if new evidence emerged.

Two other officers who fired shots at Taylor’s apartment were fired from the department.
