The gaming lifestyle company Razer may sound like a strange match coronavirus-drive face mask protection, but based on the Project Hazel concept design for a N95-class face mask, it brings to the table some striking ideas for adding digital intelligence.

For example, it has active ventilation and autosterilization, with a separate container that can charge it wirelessly and has a UV sterilizer. It uses replaceable filters and rechargeable fans on the pods, which are meant to make it a sustainable solution.

Razer’s something extra adds lighting. This is not only for the most beautiful: the LEDs on the pods indicate the charging status, and there are also internal LEDs to make your mouth visible in low light. And the pods have built-in sound processing algorithms to make your voice sound much clearer and more natural.

Project Hazel has a sterilization case that also charges the pods wirelessly.

The mask has silicone around the edges for an airtight seal and adjustable ruffles, and you can adjust the amount of airflow for maximum comfort and protection. On top of that, it comes in different sizes. And it’s transparent so people can see your mouth moving.

Razer is not the first to re-introduce the high-tech face mask – there are this and this and thisfor example – and this will not be the last. But Razer brings its exceptional design aesthetics to the drawing board.

Will it ever become a reality? Who knows. And even if it is, it will probably not be affordable for people who need it most. Still, Razer’s heart (and brain) seem to be in the right place.
