CDPR Hacked, Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 Source Codes Hero Ransom

Life that mimics art or black hat hackers goes too far?

It is an understatement to say that it was a difficult road for CD Project Red and their release of the highly anticipated but unfortunately manageable Cyberpunk 2077. So far, the evolving story has mostly been told from the point of view of the developers in the studio and the customers who have been let down by the many problems of the game. But today a new bad actor enters the picture. An unknown person or persons hacked CDPR’s systems and currently holds source codes for games such as Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent and more ransom.

First, to be clear, the actor (or actors, probably) is not a real actor out of the game, but another word for someone who acts maliciously or illegally, just so we’re on the same page. Secondly, there is the fact that this information could have gone unnoticed if it had remained between the alleged hacker (s) and CDPR, but the latter preferred to disclose the information and the statement that they would not negotiate with the hackers. This is probably the appropriate response, but it certainly feels like a fairly common side question. Cyberpunk 2077 himself, one with major consequences in the real world for the reputation of the studio and the actors involved.

Here is a look at the ransom document and the response from CDPR:

We will keep an eye on this one as it develops. CDPR seems to be more than happy to air this dirty laundry in the light of day. This is honestly probably not a bad bit of PR for the company, after defending months of harsh but well-deserved criticism on them Cyberpunk 2077 deployment. And no doubt the false flag-waving is already theorizing throughout the ordeal. Stay tuned.
