Vaccination shots for COVID-19 were halted Friday at a health clinic in El Paso County due to “irregularities” in the storage and handling of vaccines, state health officials said.
The Department of Public Health and the Environment in Colorado has approved the provider’s participation in the Dr. Moma Health and Wellness Clinic suspended, according to a CDPHE news release.
“The El Paso County Public Health Service alerted the Joint Vaccine Task Force after an inspection of the vaccination clinic where they observed that they were not complying with the conservation protocols,” the release said.
The clinic, which gave 3,933 vaccines, will not receive more doses as the investigation continues.
“CDPHE is working to determine if the provider has records to show that the storage protocols were followed consistently or that it was an isolated incident,” the release reads. “Health officials do not believe that patients on this site have cause for concern, but are in the process of determining whether those previously vaccinated at this site should resume their vaccination series.”
About 1,000 appointments were canceled on Saturday, along with 6,000 cancellations through May 8, the CDPHE said. State health officials are contacting people who have had appointments to reschedule them to another clinic in El Paso County.
