The Deshaun Watson saga has interested the football world over the last few weeks. There was enough internal drama to reject Watson and lead him to request a trade, which would put a franchise quarter at its best on the market.
Not much is known about what happened inside the Texans’ organization that led to Watson’s disapproval, apart from the fact that he was not consulted about the appointment of the new general manager of the Texans, Nick Caserio.
But how bad are things in Houston?
Someone who knows something about the culture in the Texans organization is Bears safety Tashaun Gipson, who was released by Houston last season and picked up by Chicago.

At the center of the Texans controversy is executive vice president Jack Easterby, who is not exactly a proven football manager, as evidenced by everything that has happened over the past few seasons.
Houston’s toxic football culture was a popular topic of conversation, specifically what was to happen to Watson just one year after he signed a $ 156 million four-year extension.
It began trading with probably the best receiver in football, DeAndre Hopkins, for the Arizona Cardinals, and it culminated in Easterby appointing the Texans’ new general manager without consulting Watson, after telling him that they would do it.
“My situation was completely different from Hops and completely different from (Watson’s), but it just shows how things are run there, it’s crazy when you think about it,” Gipson said. ‘I would never have thought in my wildest dreams that a quarterback in his best time – I mean, he did not even reach his first time’ – that he wants to come out after signing a life-changing contract, it agrees with everything everyone has heard. While the Texans have been calling about Watson, it is still unclear if they are actually going to trade him or see how things play out this season. Houston insists Watson is their quarterback of the future, but the quarterback wants nothing to do with them.
But if Watson were to reach the open market, there is no doubt that he would pay the huge compensation of many interested teams. Clearly, the Bears are one of the teams.
“He’s a good friend of mine and I have nothing but respect for him as a player and as a leader, and where he ends up, he will make that team a super-candidate,” Gipson said. “I can tell you that.”
Assuming Gipson extends this off-season, he might be able to help recruit Watson to the Bears.
