Sheldon Adelson, the multimillionaire casino magnate and megadonor of the Republican Party, passed away on Monday at the age of 87.

Adelson has died of complications related to the treatment he received for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, according to a press release Tuesday morning from Las Vegas Sands, the casino and resort business that Adelson owned.

Adelson, whose net worth was estimated by Forbes at about $ 33 billion, was one of the most popular donors to support President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election effort.

Former President George W. Bush, to whom Adelson previously donated, calls the deceased entrepreneur an American patriot, a generous benefactor of charity and a strong supporter of Israel.

“Sheldon was a generous benefactor of charity, especially medical research and Jewish heritage education. He will be missed by many – none other than his beloved family,” Bush said.
